Preparing for College: Year-by-Year Guide

Preparing for college is a journey that starts long before senior year. Taking small, intentional steps each year of high school can help you stay on track, reduce stress, and open up more opportunities. Whether you plan to attend a four-year university, community college, or another option, this guide can help you plan ahead.

9th Grade (Freshman Year)

  • Focus on building good study habits and time management skills

  • Explore your interests through clubs, sports, and volunteer work

  • Meet with your school counselor to understand graduation and college entrance requirements

  • Start developing a strong academic foundation - grades matter from the beginning

  • Begin keeping track of your activities and accomplishments
