This is another book by Steven Antonoff. It's hard to describe what makes The College Finder such a great book for exploring colleges. It's just a big book of lists -- 700 of them -- on all types of colleges. You can find "best colleges for the undecided student" for those who don't know about majors and careers. "Colleges with fine history departments" . . ."Colleges for the Quirky student" . . . . "The 'most catholic' Catholic colleges" . . . "Schools with Farms" . . . "Colleges with a winning tradition in bowling"

Get Smart about Selectivity: Nearly Half of US Colleges Accept 75% of Applicants - https://www.nacacnet.org/student/

  • Students who are busy completing their college applications should take heart. Although the average yield rate continues to decline, federal data show that nearly half of all four-year colleges and universities in the US accept 75 percent or more of their applicants.

  • This is very good advice. Make sure you have a number of schools on your list that you are likely to get in. That means (roughly, with exceptions) that you are in the middle 50% of their admitted students in terms of grades and test scores. You can find that out on the Big Future site or the college's own page. You can apply to some schools that are more of a stretch, but the real meat or your applications should be schools that are likely to accept you. And there should be MANY since the majority of GREAT schools admit a good chunk of their applicants.
